Julia Bartz - LCSW
Clinical Associate

Some people come to therapy knowing exactly what they want to work on. Others have a more vague sense that something in their lives is wrong. Both motivations can be an incredible opportunity to learn more about oneself and figure out how to build a more authentic and fulfilling life.

As a therapist, Yoga Alliance-certified yoga instructor, and writer (see her Psychology Today blog here), Julia uses a wide variety of modalities to assist clients in this goal. Sessions may include traditional psychodynamic techniques with a focus on the unconscious and childhood, Eastern methods such as mindfulness and meditation, and inner parts work based on Internal Family Systems. Julia also assist clients in identifying and breaking outside of societal norms to figure out their true personal and interpersonal needs. With couples, she may discuss attachment styles and imagos, and use other techniques from training at the Relational Life Institute. In all sessions, Julia strives to create a warm, judgement-free zone where clients have the time and space to explore their innermost selves.

Originally from the Midwest, Julia has spent the last fifteen years in New York and received her master’s degree from Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work. She holds a special interest in social justice, gender/sexuality, and trauma. Her Psychology Today blog, My Pleasure: The New Psychology of Sex, Dating, and Self-Care, aims to empower through strengthening pleasure and intuitive practices. In her personal life, she is constantly striving to learn more and do better as a white cis woman in the US, which includes having founded an anti-racist discussion group for white therapists.

Julia works with adult individuals and couples. If you feel Julia might be a good fit, she looks forward to hearing from you!
